CANACONA: Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar along with PWD engineers on Tuesday inspected the sites for the Rs 200 crore worth twin bridges on Galgibaga and Talpona rivers.
PWD Chief Executive Engineer J J Rego led the team of PWD engineers and explained their estimations as Tawadkar took keen interest in inspecting the site and routes pointed out by PWD officials in the presence of sarpanchas Mahesh Naik (Poinguinim) and Bhushan Prabhugaonkar (Loliem-Polem) in whose jurisdictions both the bridges and a connecting creek with approach road falls.
Incidentally, both the bridges will reduce the distance to Chaudi by about 10 kms, besides doing away with several accident-prone turns and curves from the present NH17 route. In a projected estimate, a total of 7.5 kms NH17 by-pass that includes two major bridges, a creek, four-lane road will cost the exchequer Rs 200.1 cr.
The length of the Talpona bridge will be 400 metres and estimated cost will be Rs 48 crore, while bridge on river Galgibaga will be 200 metres in length and will cost Rs 24 crore. Similarly, 130 metres long creek will be constructed at Babrem-Maxem at an estimated cost of Rs 15.6 crore.
