PANJIM: As a part of Congress’ nation-wide protest, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) held an agitation at Azad Maidan on Thursday condemning the conspiracy of BJP for abolition of the fundamental right of reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in government jobs.
GPCC has appealed to the President of India Ram Nath Kovind to intervene in the matter and ensure that the fundamental rights of the backward communities are upheld.

After hearing a writ petition by Uttarakhand government, the Supreme Court, on February 7, had ruled that States are not bound to provide reservations in government jobs to ST and SCs.
Addressing the media during the protest, GPCC president Girish Chodankar said that Uttarakhand government’s plea is a “conspiracy of BJP-RSS combine who do not believe and respect the Indian constitution”.
“We strongly condemn the act of Central government, who informed Supreme Court that reservations are not fundamental rights,” Chodankar said.
“We appeal to the President of India, through Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik, to immediately intervene in the matter and ensure that the Constitution is upheld,” he added.
Former Chief Minister and MLA Luizinho Faleiro recalled that some years ago, a RSS leader had said that there is a need to review the reservation policy. “This statement itself shows that BJP worked as per the dictate of RSS, who were always against the reservation and backward communities,” he said.
Faleiro added that Congress will launch a State-wide awareness exposing the dirty tactics of the BJP government.
