The technical fault by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) has caused so much of environmental destruction to the century-old natural fresh water lake at Orlim in Varca village.
Let’s not talk about the practicality or feasibility about this project. Development is supreme. But whose development? This beautiful lake is home for many migratory birds and various flora and fauna. This lake is biodiversity hotspot in the village. Erecting a concrete structure has a very serious and harmful effect. In short as cement/concrete absorbs heat during the day and releases at night.

This lake is also home for many endangered fresh water soft shell turtles. Many of them have lost their habitat due to this foolish project. The remaining is getting crushed under the earthmovers demolishing the same. I am requesting the GSIDC officials to stop the madness of red yielding the same. You all don’t have to prove any point to anyone. Try and restore this beautiful lake to its past glory. That will do justice to all.
