MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress workers led by their President Adv Prathima Coutinho met the Executive Engineer at Aquem office of the Electricity department and demanded better service for the public.
“The lights are fluctuating. Students are facing problems. When we call the linesmen, some are drunk and they give excuses that there is no equipment or vehicles,” she said.
Coutinho made three demands. The first is that the bills have to be given to households on a monthly basis. The second demand is that all the malfunctioning streetlights have to be repaired within seven days. Their third demand is to take action against the real estate builders who, she claims, by forming a nexus with the engineers, have taken connections on the old transformers instead of installing new transformers.
In response, Executive Engineer V G S Kuncolienkar said that they have followed all the rules and regulations while giving electricity connections to new buildings. He stated that the billing system is computerised and that all the bills are given regularly. With regards to the streetlights, he stated that there is a complaint number which people can use to register their complaint against non-functioning streetlights.
