SANGUEM: After being unemployed for last several years, around 13 youth from Kalay-Sanguem have ventured into Government Fodder Farm in the village to undertake fodder cultivation under Goa Horticulture Development Corporation (GHDC).
With no jobs for taking, the youth under guidance from the local panchayat member Kishore Rama Gauns Dessai approached the officials at the Government Agriculture Farm Kalay to permit the unemployed youth from the village to bring under fodder cultivation the barren land at the fodder farm spreading around 16 acres.

The youth later accompanied by Kishore Rama Gauns Dessai met the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and put the proposal to place the unemployed youth from the village under GHDC to undertake the cultivation of fodder on the barren land.
Chief minister soon directed the concerned officials at the GHDC and the agricultural farm at Kalay to work on the idea proposed by the village youth and it worked.
Now around 13 youth from the village have undertaken around 2 acres of land under fodder cultivation and the fodder saplings cultivated by the youth are showing good signs of productivity.
The vast land at the fodder farm has been lying barren for past several years and it is now seen as a good job opportunity for the village youth who, keeping aside all their education, have now been toiling in the hot sun and rains in the fodder farm.
While taking the challenge to bring more area under cultivation in the next few months, the youth engaged in the fodder cultivation have thanked the government for the support given to them and also for providing them the assistance of a farm supervisor to understand the techniques involved in fodder cultivation.
