NGO files complaint for negligence

VASCO: Following the ammonia tanker mishap members of NGO, Niz Goenkar Revolution Front (NGRF) lodged a police complaint for negligence of tankers transporting ammonia by road.  A copy of the complaint was also submitted to the Mormugao Deputy Collector and Goa State Pollution Control Board on Friday.
NGRF Vice President Suresh Barve wrote that the ammonia leakage was due to negligence of tankers transporting ammonia by road.
“This chemical is stored and used by ZACL. This has endangered the lives of the people of Chicalim, commuters and surrounding area due to the spillage of ammonia. This is violation to the Air (Prevention and control of Pollution) Act 1981 and should be taken seriously. A full enquiry should be done on the negligence in handing of this deadly chemical in an irresponsible manner. We therefore request you to investigate and file criminal charges on the violators handling the hazardous chemical,” the complaint stated. 
The accident caused panic in Chicalim as hundreds of residents were forced to move to safer places and a 72-year-old woman had to be taken to hospital.
