Durga Sports Club came from behind to defeat Fatima Boys, Baida 3-2 and enter the quarter-finals of Catherine Viegas memorial football tournament organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at church ground, Chinchinim on Monday. Durga were trailing 0-1 at half time.
Fatima enjoyed a slight edge over their opponents in the opening session and created many moves to unsettle the rival defence. They were rewarded midway in the first half when Agnelo Rebello punished the rival goalkeeper with a rasping shot.
Stung by the setback, Durga tried their best and went all-out in search of the equalizer but their efforts proved futile as rival defenders stood tall in foiling their attempts with neat tackles.
Crossing over, Durga were a transformed side and displayed some attacking football with their forwards repeatedly raiding the rival citadel. Their persistent raids found success when Jollis Rebeiro slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stunned by the equaliser, Baida went into the attack with Lourecinho Rebello firing home.
Unfazed about the lead, Durga regrouped quickly and Faisal Martins restored parity.
With the match heading for tie-breaker, Durga struck the match-winner when Kargil Martins unleashed a booming shot that gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper.
