PORVORIM: The Goa Assembly on Wednesday passed the Vote on Account to meet the State government’s expenditure for the first four months of the financial year 2023-24.
Soon after presenting the budget in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tabled the Vote on Account even as the opposition demanded to know how the government will mobilise revenues.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said that though the Chief Minister has stated that he will raise money through mining, nobody knows when mining will resume in the State and when the Centre had stopped GST compensation of Rs 800 crore to the State. He said that the Action Taken Reports submitted by the government is an admission that it has failed with 34 per cent marks. “The government has admitted that it could not implement and fulfil the commitments of 60 per cent announcements made in the last budget,” he added.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that no sitting MLA has received Rs 25 crore under the MLA Local Area Development Fund. He said that women do not have access to clean and hygienic public toilets in the State. He cautioned the government against imposing entry tax on non-Goan vehicles entering the State, calling it unconstitutional and suggested that the government should instead levy a facility fee at important tourist places.
