PANJIM: Operators of offshore casinos vessels, anchored in River Mandovi, within the jurisdiction of Panjim constituency, are directed not to serve liquor till Wednesday midnight and on August 28 in wake of the by-elections and counting.
North Goa Collector Nila Mohanan told media persons that in view of by-polls in Panjim and Valpoi, directions are issued to all licenced premises serving liquor or sale of liquor to remain close from Monday 5 pm till midnight of the polling day and throughout day and night on August 28. “Both the constituencies will witness dry days during these period,” she said.
“As such, offshore as well as land casinos in the jurisdiction of Panjim constituency, are directed not to serve the liquor till Wednesday midnight and full day on August 28, which is counting day,” she said.
Mohanan said Department of Excise is been asked to keep close watch on the operation of casinos and to ensure that no liquor is served. “Excise teams have been deployed for monitoring,” she said.
The Collector, however, clarified that casino operations can continue during the election period.
