MARGAO: While the Christmas and New Year season is a time for celebration with hundreds of parties organized across the coastal belt, it is also season for an alarming number of road accidents.
A study conducted by the Goa Traffic Cell reveals that the maximum number of person killed in the year 2017 were due to 2-wheeler accidents and almost 35 per cent of them were self-accidents.
Party and drinking go hand in hand. The report reveals that most of the self-accidents are due to drunken driving. This year, Margao topped in the number of accidents and also of fatalities followed by Pernem, Maina Curtorim, Bicholim and Ponda.
Meanwhile, the Margao traffic cell has informed that the road accidents in the town are down. “The traffic cell moving for cancellation of licences has had a great impact on the number of accidents and the same will continue to get stricter,” said Margao Traffic PI Mohan Gaude.
