Valpoi: Cows are dying by the dozen in Pali village, Sattari. In the past 15 days, 20 cows have died according to the villagers. The veterinary doctor claims to not know the exact cause of death. The decomposing remains are lying scattered in the forest thanks to the villagers who say that the exact cause of cows death is not known.
Pali village was in the news for the KFD disease when the first patient was tested and found positive there. And now its the turn for cows.
Arjun Sawant, a villager and panch member, said cows usually struggled for two or three days and then just dropped dead. Some die in the village, others in the forest. The village had 150 cows and that number has now dropped to an alrming 70.
Another villager, Narayan Mahadev Gaonkar said the vetenarian had advised them against using cow dung since the disease appeared to have afflicted the animal’s rectum region. Using the dung could affect young children. Bandya Goankar said the river water was unfit for consumption because two cows died in the river and when death occurs blood spurts out. It was proving very difficult to remove the cows.
Dr Narendra Naik, veterinary doctor, claims he had not received a single call regarding the death of cows in Pali village. He said “We have to alert
people, if they find dead cows in the village, they should inform us. We will come and provide treatment. Now we will start routine vaccine of different diseases and treat cows in village and sub center”.
