PANJIM: Goa’s campaign in the badminton team championship ended in defeat in both the men’s and the women’s section of the National Games which commenced on Thursday.
In the morning, the women’s team lost to Punjab 2-3. Goa got off to a very good start when Kurbhelgi Sakshi beat Samridhi 21-16, 21-18 in 30 minutes. In the match of the day, Goa’s top ranked player Anura Prabhudesai battled against Radhika Sharma and lost after an hour and five minutes in three sets, 16-21, 21-17, 18-21. Lydia Barretto and Anura Prabhudesai then lost to Manya Ralhan and Radhika Sharma in straight sets 18-21, 9-21.

Then Anjana Kumari had to retire from her match against Manya Ralhan 14-20. In the decider, Anagha Karandikar and Anamika Singh lost to Saanvi Nautiyal and Liza Taank 12-21, 21-18, 21-17 in an hour and three minutes.
In the men’s championship, Goa was brushed aside by Maharashtra 4-1 later in the evening. Aayan Shaikh lost in straight sets to Rohan Gurbani 10-21, 9-21 in 22 minutes. Arunesh H however brought the score on level terms when he defeated Arya Bhivpathaki 21-18, 21-13.
Arjun Fallary and Mohammed Rehan R then lost to Deep Rambhiya and Akshan Shetty 16-21, 14-21. Rahul Deswal then lost to Darshan Pujari 15-21, 14-21. In the final match of the tie Tejan Fallary and Arunesh H lost to Viplav Kuvale and Viraj Kuvale 14-21, 21-18, 10-21.
