MARGAO: The ongoing works at the Nuvem bypass has raised eyebrows amongst local NGOs and activists, who have demanded that the PWD and the contactor should come clean on the nature of work being still executed at the site.
Social activist Zarinha da Cunha pointed out that work on the Nuvem bypass was scheduled to be completed in March last, but lamented that the works continues till date, with monsoon round the corner. “The board displayed at the road site very clearly states that work on the project will be completed in March last. We fail to understand how the work still continues along the road and people have no idea the nature of work being executed even now,” Zarinha told the media.
She said the ongoing work on the bypass pose a danger to the motorists with no proper boards and signages. “The contractor had made a statement to the media last month that the PWD is executing additional work on the project. Could the contractor or the PWD come out clear what sort of additional work is being carried out along the bypass”, she said.
Zarinha reiterated that the Nuvem bypass is being put in place by throwing to the winds environmental safeguards and norms.
“The government had disregarded the report of the Bio-diversity Board and other studies how the bypass will threatened the bio-diversity and environment of the area, especially around the Rumder bandh’, she added.
