MARGAO: The trial in the infamous Varca murder case where 25 year old Nepali Samuel, alias Rahul Soren, was murdered and buried in the sand near Varca beach commenced today with the examination of the first witness Durga Lohra.
Though the complainant who is Samuel’s wife was supposed to depose today, she could not appear in the court and hence another witness was examined. The matter is now fixed for June 21 for further evidence.
It may be recalled that Samuel was murdered on Dec 12, 2017 afternoon in the midst of a birthday party and his body was then buried in the sand next to the beach. The body was recovered only on Dec 17 and police investigations revealed that he was murdered while the birthday of a child of Magna, alias Suraj Gopi and Etna Devi, was being celebrated.
The witness Durga, who was examined today, was staying in one of the premises rented out by Magna and Etna Devi.
Police caught two of the murderers who were friends of the child’s father Magna namely Pradeep Hora and Safar Khan on Dec 19 while the couple Magna and his wife Etna were arrested with the help of Palkut police in Jharkand.
While Public Prosecutor Subhash Dessai is appearing for the State all the four accused are represented by Adv S Angle. The case is being heard before Additional Sessions Judge Edgar Fernandes.
