MARGAO: This might raise many an eyebrow as a scheduled demolition of structures of a builder at Telaulim stands postponed at the eleventh hour, for the second time in nearly two months.
The demolition squad headed by Deputy Collector, Sangeeta Naik had fixed demolition of the alleged illegal structures in Telaulim village on Wednesday morning.
Accordingly, directions had gone to the police, PWD and the Executive Magistrate to provide all the support and logistics to comply with the demolition order. The PWD, in particular, was instructed to make men and necessary machinery available for the demolition exercise.
However, as it turned out, the deputy Collector received a communiqué from the PWD on Tuesday evening, expressing its inability to provide the men and machinery for tomorrow’s demolition.
Left with no other option, deputy Collector Sangeeta Naik postponed tomorrow’s demolition, but eyebrows have been raised in her office over the postponement of the demolition exercise for the second time in nearly two months.
Sources in the know said that last time round, the planned demolition of the structures was postponed at the eleventh hour on September 18 by the demolition squad for want of the PWD workers and equipment.
Taken aback over the postponement of the demolition for the second time for want of PWD’s men and machinery, the deputy Collector is believed to have decided to take up the matter with the PWD to ascertain the reasons behind their inability to provide the labourers and equipment for the demolition operation.
