PONDA: In a bit to thwart a protest march by residents of Bandora-Ponda at the State Legislative Assembly on October 9, North Goa SP Priyanka Kashyap has banned processions and demonstrations within the jurisdiction of Police Stations of Porvorim and Panjim from October 9 to October 17.
It may be recalled that villagers under the banner of ‘Gaunem Dhajan Samaja’ and Jan Jagruti Manch, Bandora, had decided to hold a protest march at the State Legislative Assembly on the first day of the assembly session on October 9 demanding to protect large tracts of grazing land from becoming a concrete jungle.
“It is apprehended that some agitators/demonstrators may cause breach of peace while taking out processions and holding demonstrations in the jurisdiction of police stations Porvorim and Panjim,” stated North Goa SP Priyanka Kashyap in an order.
The order has been promulgated to be in force in the jurisdiction of the police stations of Porvorim and Panjim from October 9 to October 17, till the fifth Session of the Sixth Legislative Assembly is over.
“No person or class of persons shall convene or collect as an assembly, take out any procession or stage any demonstration on the road, street or thoroughfare, shall hold public meeting,” stated the press note.
“In no case, procession, morcha, rally, dharna, etc, shall be allowed around the Goa Assembly Complex at Porvorim within 500 meters, as promulgated under Section 144 CrPC by the District Magistrate, North Goa.”
