CHANDOR: Sanmay Paranjape and Mallika Gogoi clinched the Men’s and Ladies singles titles while Anshuman Agarwal won a double crown, at the 4th Naguesh and Sushila Verenker Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, organised by Chandor Club under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association(GTTA), at Chandor Club Complex, on Sunday.
In Men’s singles final, Sanmay Paranjpe, ranked India number 40 in Men’s and who has taken a transfer to Goa from Delhi this season, produced a master class performance to register an enthralling win over Dheeraj Rai.
Though Dheeraj took one set, Sanmay was clinical in the other sets, easing past his opponent with a 4-1 margin. Mallika Gogoi captured the Ladies singles title with a comfortable 3-0 win over Sukriti Das.
Anshuman Agarwal, who has notched up good title wins this season, continued his strong form of late with identical 3-1 victories over his arch rival Nagesh Verenker in Sub Junior and Junior boys final.
Ruchi Kirtani stamped her authority in the mini cadet girls final with a 3-1 win over Anvi Nadkarni.
The mini cadet boys singles clash between Rishan Shaikh and Atharv Dhulapkar was an absorbing match that went the whole distance.
The finals had all the trappings of a great contest with both players coming of age in an intense affair. In the end, it was Rishan who edged out his opponent with the narrowest of margins, winning 3-2 after taking the final set at 15-13.
In cadet boys final, the powerful attacking game of Aaron Farias put paid to the hopes of Akshan Lawande who was aiming for his first title, with Aaron prevailing 3-1. Trisha Verlekar emerged winner in cadet girls final after her opponent Leoma Fernandes conceded the match owing to illness.
Trisha however could not carry her form from previous tournaments into the sub junior finals where she looked totally off-colour. She went down to Najida Shaikh who it must be added was sensational throughout this tournament, and showed similar brilliance in the finals to push the top seed on the back foot from start to end, winning 3-0.
The Junior Girls crown went the way of Prutha Parrikar who was sparkling during a clinical 3-0 win over Sanisha Shetye.
