MARGAO: The Goa Municipal Employees Association on Monday has warned to retaliation if the Margao Municipal Council at its meeting on Tuesday recommends any action against Union leader in the Civic body.
Association president Keshav Prabhu told the media that the Tuesday meeting of the Margao Municipal Council will discuss the action to be taken on Municipal market inspector, Anil Shirodkar, for addressing a press conference on October 31. “The Association would like to maintain that Anil Shirodkar had addressed the press conference on October 31 not as market inspector, but as general secretary of the Association. As such, there’s no need or requirement for the Union leaders to take any prior permission from the Civic administration to address the media,” Keshav asserted.
He said the Margao Municipal Chief Officer Deepali Naik should stop meting out harassment to the municipal employees on flimsy grounds. “If any action is mooted by the Civic body against our general secretary Anil Shirodkar on grounds that he addressed the media as market inspector, the Association will have no option than to retaliate in an appropriate manner,” Keshav warned.
Keshav maintained that section 18 of the Trade Union Act gives immunity to trader union officials from being prosecuted by the management, adding, “in the instant case, the MMC intends to prosecution an Union official without any rhyme or reason.”
