PORVORIM: Members of Govansh Raksha Abhiyan (GRA) detained three vehicles carrying 15 bovines along the Mapusa-Panjim highway on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, the GRA members detained three vehicles (MH-07-P-3454), (MH-07-3454) and (MH-07-3025) carrying 15 bovines and took them to Porvorim police station. The members registered a complaint at Porvorim police station and demanded action against the vehicles.
Police Inspector Brandon D’Souza after having discussion with Deputy Superintendent of Police Nelson Albuquerque decided to obtain advice from Deputy Collector Mapusa Sabaji Shetye on the issue.
Upon receipt of the information, Shetye rushed to Porvorim police station and examined the documents submitted by the driver of the vehicles. On examining the documents, Shetye released the three vehicles.
Later speaking to media, Shetye stated that the drivers were in possession of the permits issued by the Road Transport Office at Sindhudurg.
“They also had permissions from the Animal Husbandry Department of Sindhudurg and they have not violated any condition or order of the High Court. Hence, I cannot take any action in the matter,” said Shetye.
“The committee appointed by the government will verify the documents at Usgao before allowing the vehicles in the slaughter house and take the decision accordingly,” added Shetye.
