Pack of dogs bite two at Candolim

CALANGUTE: Two persons were bitten by stray dogs, while many tourists managed to escape at Candolim beach on Sunday.

According to sources, an elderly man and another person were bitten by about eight stray dogs at Candolim beach, while many tourists managed to escape. The two persons were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Sources further informed that the stray dogs have been regularly biting the locals and tourists, but no one takes action in the matter.
Speaking to Herald, I Bawa said, “Today, 7-8 dogs bit an elderly person and another man while they were strolling on the beach. Luckily, some others escaped from being bitten by the dogs. I am told that this is a regular feature at Candolim beach. The lifeguards expressed their helplessness in the matter. The authorities need to do something to stop the menace.”
Michael Lobo said the animal welfare shed of international standard on acquired land at Calangute is the need of the hour and government should take up the project for a long-term solution. “A full-fledged centre can be handed over to Animal Rescue Team to take care of the pets and other animals. The dogs and other animals cannot be allowed on the beaches of Goa.”
