A grand convention of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community from the Pernem constituency and across Goa will be held on August 9, 2026, at 10.30 am at the Bagayatdar Hall in Pernem, with the aim of formulating a united political roadmap for the 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly elections.
According to the organisers, the convention will focus on strengthening the community’s political representation and discussing its future course of action ahead of the Assembly polls. The event invitation also highlights the ideals of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, emphasising democracy, constitutional values, equality, reason and humanity.
The organisers said that since the demise of former MLA and former Deputy Speaker Deu Mandrekar, the Scheduled Caste community has not had a representative elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly for nearly three decades. They believe this has affected the community’s overall development and representation in the state’s political landscape.
The convention has been organised to unite members of the community and collectively decide their political direction for the upcoming elections. Organisers also noted that the Mahar community forms a significant section of the electorate in the reserved Pernem Assembly constituency and stressed the need to strengthen its unity, organisation and political presence.
Members of the Scheduled Caste community from Pernem and other parts of Goa, including women, youth and senior citizens, have been invited to participate in large numbers.
