Goa Forward Party’s Curchorem Block President, Vishal Nogueiro, staged a unique protest by sitting on a pothole-ridden road to draw attention to the poor condition of roads and question the government’s priority of installing AI-based traffic cameras.
Highlighting the deteriorating state of road infrastructure, Nogueiro said that while artificial intelligence-powered cameras may help enforce traffic regulations, they cannot guarantee the safety of motorists if roads remain damaged.

He argued that repairing potholes and improving road conditions would have a far greater impact on reducing accidents and saving lives than relying solely on surveillance technology.
“AI cameras will not provide safety if roads are full of potholes. Safe, well-maintained roads are the real foundation of road safety. The government must first ensure pothole-free roads before investing in AI cameras,” Nogueiro said.
The protest was aimed at urging the government to prioritise road repairs and basic infrastructure before expanding the use of AI-based traffic monitoring systems.
