BENAULIM: The newly appointed India U-17 football team Coach Luis Norton de Matos attended his first coaching session on Monday at Benaulim ground.
The Portuguese coach had light training session with the 30 young players including four goalkeepers on his first day, after the departure of former coach Nicolai Adam couple of weeks earlier.
Matos had light training session with the lads which included passing and shooting exercises. The young lads were seen enjoying the first session under the guidance of the new coach as their body language showed positive signs. The head coach was assisted by his assistant Hugo Martens, who also had his first training session with the young lads.
Martens was on the sidelines as the Portuguese kept an eye on the players.
A source close to AIFF said that Matos will address the press formally on Wednesday.
It can be recollected that Nicolai Adam had been shown the door by AIFF following complaints of ‘physical abuse’ by his players, has been doing the round for weeks.
In the complaint letter, it was written that Nikolai and assistant coach Etibar Nizami Ibrahimov allegedly abused the players physically. After the report came out, the AIFF initially denied it, with Nicolai not budging from his stand to stay on as per the agreement.
