Goa University lose semis

AGENCIES, ODISHA: Goa University suffered a 0-1 defeat to Madurai Kamraj University, Tamil Nadu in the semi-finals match of Women’s Football at Khelo India University Games 2020, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The match started with both teams attacking and searching for an early lead.

Goa University maintained good possession and looked for talisman, Karishma Shirvoikar to score. Goa University’s defender, Madurai Kamraj played a crucial role in keeping the scores level at half time. 

In the second-half, Goa’s Madurai Kamraj dealt well with long ball attacks that were whipped in by the position. 

In the 60th minute, Goa University’s Jeromina Colaco tapped the ball in the net but Karishma, who laid the ball to her, was pulled up for an off-side. 

Tamil Nadu’s Madurai got the match winner in the 74th minute when a cross from the right winger caused miscommunication in the defence and which resulted in Madurai slotting the ball past the keeper.

Goa University fought till the last minute, missing a couple of close chances. But, the day belonged to Madurai Kamraj who scored the lone goal of the match. 

Goa University will now play Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for the third place match, whereas Madurai Kamraj will face Annamalai University both, from Tamil Nadu in the final.
