PANJIM: India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa, on Friday extended red alert for July 20 forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places with strong surface winds and orange alert for the subsequent three days.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at many places with extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places with strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa districts for July 20,” the IMD said.

In its forecast for July 21, 22 and 23, the IMD said. “Heavy to very rainfall is very likely at a few places with strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa districts.”
Except for July 17, the state has been on red alert since beginning of the current week. From June 1 to July 17, the state has so far received 87.81 inches of rainfall as against normal rainfall of 59 inches, registering a surplus of 48.5 per cent.
Meanwhile, the rainfall received by various cities recorded at 8.30 am of July 19, was Mapusa received 4.6 inches, Pernem 4.9 inches, Ponda 3.7 inches, Panjim 5 inches, Old Goa 5.4 inches, Sanquelim 4.8 inches, Valpoi 5.7 inches, Canacona 5.1 inches, Dabolim 3.3 inches, Margao 3.6 inches, Mormugao 3.9, Quepem 4.7 and Sanguem 5 inches.
