CALANGUTE: The Calangute police arrested Saiful Sarkar, a 21-year-old resident of West Bengal, at Baga beach for attempting to murder his colleague Gyan Bahadur, a resident of Nepal on Friday.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi said that that a stabbing incident occurred at a resort in Baga on Friday morning. Accordingly, the police rushed to the spot where they found that the victim was stabbed with a kitchen knife and learnt that it was over a petty issue of stealing cigarettes. Further, the victim was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for further treatment.
The accused person had fled from the spot. The police recorded the complaint of another colleague and immediately formed a team to locate the accused. The witnesses were also taken along with the police to identify the accused.
Police learnt that the accused had no access to money or vehicle, as such, concluded that he would be fleeing on foot. Accordingly, the police started patrolling the beach areas and spotted the accused at Baga beach and arrested him.
Calangute police have identified eye witnesses and are recording their statements. The weapon used in the assault has been recovered and CCTV footage has also been secured by the police. The accused was also sent for medical examination at GMC Bambolim.
The case is being investigated by PSI Sitaram Malik under the supervision of Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi.
