Prime suspect in shootout held

MARGAO :The prime accused in the shootout at Khareband, Manoj Oklekar, was arrested by Margao town police on Tuesday for firing at Avinash Gunjikar.

The police have registered offence under sectiosn 143, 147, 148, 341, read with Section 149 of the IPC for unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint of the complainant and also under sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act for illegal possession of fire arms and using it in public endangering human lives. 
The police have revealed that the shootout erupted due to personal enmity and that the involvement of other men is also being probed.
“There may be more men involved in this shootout and police are interrogating Manoj to ascertain the exact details said Dy SP Mohan Naik.
On hearing the shots, people around the area arrived on the scene and in a fit of anger pelted stones at the vehicle used by the assailants. Margao police have termed the incident as a gang war Investigating Officer Girendra Naik did not divulge any important details.
Manoj Oklekar is a Kulal Brother’s gang member from Malbhat and has enmity with the Chopsi gang from Aquem. Sources said that the shootout is the fallout of a scuffle between  Gunjikar and some gangs in the past. 
There was an incident of stone pelting and bottle hurling at Gunjikar’s house a day earlier on May 31.
