PONDA: The Ponda Municipality Council (PMC) has urged Pondaitees to do away with plastic bags and replace them with ones made from cloth.
In an initiative, to make the town plastic-free, the PMC has decided to install cloth bag vending machines at four different places in the market area.

“These machines will be installed in the coming days and we will no longer have to use plastic bags which pollute the environment”, stated PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik.
He also stated that under the corporate social responsibility (CSR), the MRF will install these machines in the market area and after inserting a ten rupee coin, a cloth bag will be provided to the consumer.
“Those using plastic bags below thickness of 40 micron will be imposed with a penalty of Rs 5,000,” Ritesh said.
