MARGAO: The rains have made the matters worse for the Margao Ravindra Bhavan premises. In a marathon inspection of the premises for the last 10 to 12 days by the team consisting of Ravindra Bhavan members and PWD engineers, they have realised that it is a mammoth task that needs to be taken up as far as Ravindra Bhavan is concerned.
Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Prashant Naik said that for the last 10 years no maintenance work was done on the building making matters worse. “Due to leakage in the roof, the false ceiling is completely damaged and is leaking all over the venue right from the stage in the auditorium and the audience side to the black box of Ravindra Bhavan,” Prashant Naik said.
The inspection is being held basically to ascertain the damage which will be followed by estimations of the works and then tendering.
“The TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has taken the issue up with the PWD & Art & Culture Minister. The PWD Civil and Electrical Engineers have inspected the venue,” revealed Naik.
He said, “Since the work is a lot it will begin gradually and difference will be seen in a year’s time. We will also take charge of the 2 unused blocks of the Ravindra Bhavan.”
For ten years the deteriorating condition of Ravindra Bhavan has been ignored. The condition of the largest and the only well equipped cultural avenue in South Goa is in shambles.
Margao Ravindra Bhavan was built and commissioned during the tenure of former Chief Minister Digamber Kamat. Its auditorium was proudly named after the veteran tiatrist late Pai Agostinho and has till date hosted thousands of tiatrs here.
