Chandor panch, couple booked

MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police have registered a non-cognizable offence against a member of Chandor Cavorim panchayat and a couple from the village following two complaints lodged by them against each other.
According to the complaint lodged by Georgina Fernande, as resident of Cavorim, Panch Mafaldina Martins abused her with filthy words and also assaulted her when she was getting a water pipeline drawn to her house.
She said that she had all the permissions, including the NOC from the panchayat, and accordingly when the PWD officials had come to lay the pipeline, Martins objected to it even though she does not represent that particular ward.
On the other hand, Martins lodged a complaint against Georgina and her husband Vincent Fernandes that they abused her with filthy words and also assaulted her. In fact, the fight between the two women got so bad that the police and local sarpanch were summoned.
Sarpanch Edward D’Silva disclosed that the panchayat had given a NOC to lay the pipeline and had asked Georgina not to construct the meter box for which permission was also given. The permission was withdrawn following objections raised by Martins at the panchayat body meeting.
Eye witnesses to the incident disclosed that Martins spat on Georgina’s husband and that Georgina’s blouse was torn in the fracas.
