PANJIM: Russel Lobo came into his own on a windy and gusty day with big swells that caused the sailors a lot of hardship in the RS:One Youth Olympic class on Day 2 of the All India Board Sailing Championship organised by the Goa Yachting Association (GYA) and Volvo Penta, at the Dolphin Adventure Sports Centre, Hawaii Beach, Dona Paula.
He won three of the four races of the day with huge leads, though a combative Katya Coelho managed to grab the second race of the day with some spunky sailing. Shekar Rao is grimly hanging on to third place in this category.
David Estibeiro continued in the lead in the Raceboard Youth class, Raunaq Pai in the Raceboard Men’s class and Rhea Fernandes in the Raceboard Women’s Class. Cany Rodrigues cemented his second place in Raceboard Men. Second placed Narayan Munda of Orissa was narrowly ahead of Dilish Rao in Raceboard Youth, while Megan Fernandes continued to trail her sister in Raceboard Women, followed by Neha Correia.
High and shifting winds, interspersed by heavy gusts, are both producing exciting racing, as well as putting the less expert sailors to great difficulty.
Four races will be held on Saturday, the third day of this championship which is supported by Volvo Penta, at the Dolphin Adventure Sports Centre, Hawaii Beach, Dona Paula. Races will start at 11am (two races) and at 3pm (two races).
