PONDA: Veling Priol Cuncoliem Panchayat on Sunday resolved to provide its hall for treating mild COVID patients following guidance from Dr Madu Ghodkirekar, who once again allayed the fears and misunderstanding of the locals about the infection.
At the special meeting at Priol, Dr Godkirekar, Associate Professor, Forensic Medicine at GMC and holding charge of Margao COVID Hospital, guided the locals by asking them to follow the norms such as wearing of masks and practicing social distancing.
Priol Sarpanch Pandurang Gaude said, “After guidance on corona by Dr Madu Ghodkirekar, the panchayat has decided to provide the hall for treating mild COVID patients with adequate medical supports such as oximeter and proper PPE for medical staff till Health Department shifts them to COVID Hospital if the need arises. The facility will be ready in two days.”
He said, “Other panchayats should also follow the footsteps of our panchayat and help the mild COVID patients by providing facility in their panchayat areas.”
The decision comes as COVID Care Centres are reported to be full of patients and this causes a delay on the part of the Health Department to shift patients to COVID Centres forcing some positive patients to stay at home causing fear among locals.
Panch Damodar Naik and Adv Varad Mardolkar were also present.
Meanwhile, the nine patients have been shifted to Farmagudi COVID Centre.
It may be recalled that 9 COVID positive cases were detected in the Veling Priol Cuncoliem panchayat jurisdiction and the delay by health department in taking them to COVID Care Centres created fear among the villagers.
