PANJIM, MAY 5
The Bombay High Court at Goa Tuesday directed the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) to follow directions issued by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to stop dumping for un-segregated waste at Assagao plateau. The court was hearing a suo motto petition about garbage disposal woes of the State.
Amicus Curiae Norma Alvares told the Court that MMC continues to dump un-segregated waste at Assagao plateau in spite directions of the GSPCB.
On March 20 GSPCB had issued directions to MMC to immediately stop dumping un-segregated waste at Assagao and construct fencing around the site. It was also directed to provide 24 hours security at the site to prevent any further dumping. High Court had asked MMC to strictly follow the directions. The High Court directed the MMC to stop dumping of garbage at Assagao.
while GSPCB has asked to conduct inspection in order to verifying whether their directions are followed and file affidavit in that regard on the next date of hearing on June 15.
