VASCO: The Joint Mamlatdar Mormugao, Vinod Dalal on Thursday informed that sale of tobacco products near school premises in Mormugao Taluka have been curbed to large extent due to strict enforcement and action against the shopkeepers and Taluka officials have been keeping a strict vigil for any such sale of tobacco products near school premises. He was speaking to reporters at the anti tobacco rally to create awareness among the public on the harmful effects of tobacco in Vasco on Friday.
As many as 100 students from Mormugao Municipal high School took part in the rally that kick started from Municipal building and culminated back at same place after taking round of Vasco city. The placards carried by students displayed facts on harmful effects of tobacco and how youngsters get addicted to smoking and lose their life at an early stage. The students also distributed pamphlets to the public.
“We have ensured that there should not be any sale of tobacco and tobacco products inside the school premises or within 100 meter radius of schools in Mormugao Taluka.”
“Today it would be hard to find any shopkeeper selling tobacco products near any schools and we request the members of public to also keep a vigil on such illegal sale and inform us. Also on routine basis we have been raiding the shops selling tobacco products near the school and today areas around the schools are totally tobacco free,” Dalal said.
