MARGAO: Sportsweek (Goa) registered a comprehensive 8 wicket win over Belgaum’s Vijaya CA at Fatorda to enter the final of second late All India Babu Naik U-16 tournament, at Fatorda ground, on Monday.
Meanwhile Nashik vanquished Lucknow by 4 wickets at Agonda to keep hopes alive to enter final. Lucknow and Jaipur are out of the tournament.
At Fatorda, Diminutive leg spinner Subhav Borkar ( 4 for 15) and support by spinners Saiesh Satardekar (1 for 17), Tusar Patel (2 for 20) and Arya Rajput (1 for 17) skittled out the Belgaum side for a paltry 123 in 33.1 overs.
Going strong at 86 for 2 after the wicket of Vaibhav Kurubhagi (31) no other batsman except capt Mayankraj (21) could counter some quality spin bowling.
Opener Kaushal Singh (60 n.o.), Sanath Nevgi (19 ) and Sanat Prabhudesai (12 n.o.) paid to any hopes of Belgaum springing a surprise by batting sensibly and finshing at 124 for 2 in 25.5 overs. Mayankraj and Siddharth snapped a wicket each.
At Agonda ground, Nashik CA won their game quite easily as they surpassed the poor total of 95 in 25 overs losing 4 wickets with Yash Chawan (49 n.o.) anchoring the innings in 70 balls. Faizan, Amit Yadav and Ashwini claimed a wicket each.
Earlier the Lucknow side won the toss and electing to bat failed to take advantage of the start (86 for 3 ) and folded up for 95 in 27 overs due to excellent off spin by Ravindra Maccha ( 4 for 4). Yash Chawan chipped in with 2 for 24 as Prachit and Aditya claimed one wicket each.
Nashik play Vijaya to secure a place in final.
