On Wednesday, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, while moving a congratulatory motion, urged the government to give a little impetus to the sport by providing all the facilities to make it possible to promote 200 swimmers.
Mamledar along with Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo congratulated the swimmers and the coaches, even as the latter urged the government to provide service extension to swimming Coach Thomas Jose, because of whom Jerry D’Mello, an outstanding swimmer, has been winning medals for Goa.
Both congratulated Saachi Gramopadhye, Kiran Narvekar, Suman Patil, Nian Leitao, Jerry D’Mello and Xavier D’Souza for their success.
The House also congratulated swimming sensation Talasha Prabhu for winning medals for Goa and representing the country at the international level.
Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane also supported the motion.
Meanwhile, the House also observed a minute’s silence to condole the deaths of Goa-born eminent criminal lawyer Adhik Shirodkar and Bhajani legend Madhusudan Chari on April 19 and June 4, 2014, respectively.
