Goa’s Watergate: BJP petitions Governor for CBI probe

PANJIM: Ahead of the Goa Legislative Assembly session on Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party has sought a CBI probe into the high profile JICA water project scam through a memorandum submitted to Goa Governor Mridula Sinha on Sunday.

The delegation of 10 members including MP Narendra Sawaikar, MLA Siddharth Kuncalienkar, party president Vinay Tendulkar and vice president of BJP Mahila Morcha Neena Naik met the Governor at Raj Bhavan even as the Crime Branch (CB) is investigating the FIR registered against ‘some minister’ and US firm Louis Berger.
Sacked JICA project director A Wachasunder and executive engineer G Naik Parrikar are the only two officials quizzed by the CB so far.
There have been even speculations of first arrest in the case in the next few hours. Former ministers Digambar Kamat and Churchill Alemao are likely to be quizzed after the Monsoon Session of the Assembly.
Ironically, instead of approaching the government for a CBI probe, the BJP preferred petitioning the Governor who has no role at this stage.
