PANJIM: The family of the new mother, whose caesarean delivery nearly proved fatal to her and the new-born, is reportedly petrified to discuss the matter saying ‘they do not want to pursue the case.’
“My child is safe because of the prompt action by doctors…Such incidents take place…” the victim’s relative told Herald.
The investigation has however concluded that the surgical instruments were not faulty. The report, which follows a four-day inquiry, also does not clearly absolve the gynecologic surgeons, who conducted the surgery, of any blame.
Sources in the know told Herald that the report, which is already submitted to the government, states that there is no knowledge of how there was a spark in the machinery.
Herald in its Thursday edition reported how the mother suffered critical burns during her caesarean delivery while the fetus was still in her womb.
The mother is being treated for burn injuries on her back, which she sustained after there was a spark in the surgical instrument, due to short circuit, on January 9.
Not only the incident, but the commissioning of the inquiry was also kept under wraps. Sources stated that the inquiry was initiated on the very same day after the concerned surgeons reported the matter to higher authorities.

Sources said the doctors are attending to cases in other emergency rooms of the gynecology department.
A short circuit had caused a spark in the surgical instrument during the operation wherein the mother sustained serious burn injuries.
Sub standard equipments in
It is learnt through reliable sources that the short circuit could be a result of improper earthing within the hospital premise as about nine months ago, several copper wires were stolen.
The hospital authorities did not bother to file a police complaint though an internal inquiry was carried out.
