PANJIM: To fight against the spread of Covid-19, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has adopted slew of measures including restricting its functioning to only essential services from coming week, to avoid rush of public at the Corporation.
Also, in view of Janata Curfew call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the City Corporation will lockdown the Panjim Municipal Market for 24-hours on March 22. Sanitation service, however, will continue.

Addressing media persons on Saturday, CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues said that from coming Monday, the Corporation will provide only essential services to public. “The list of essential services will be made public soon. We request people not to rush to the Council for services, if not urgent,” he said.
Commissioner said that during his meeting with the owners of shops and establishment, directions have been issued to ensure that queue system is put in place at crowded counters like cafes, bakery shops, sweet marts, as an interim measure.
“Also, we are in talks with hotels and restaurants to either curtail their services or complete lockdown till March 31. The decision will be taken by Monday,” he said adding that a meeting with Religious Heads, is also been called on same day.
City Mayor Uday Madkaikar urged people not to panic and avoid rushing to markets and other grocery shops as a measure of social distancing ensuring there is no spread of virus.
“As the virus enters third phase, the coming week is going to be very crucial and hence it becomes responsibility of every citizen to ensure their own safety and also of other people,” he said.
