“Don’t miss the beginning of the film,” says the Chairman of ESG and the National
Award-winning film director Rajendra Talak, who has worked on some remarkable
films over the years. It’s been a long break of almost five years after which
Talak has come out with ‘Miranda House’. He has previously worked on films like
‘O Maria’, A rainy day’, ‘Aleesha’, ‘Savalee’, ‘Saavariyaa.com’ and ‘Antarnad’.
After a long break, the team is all set for the release of Konkani Film
‘Miranda House’, a bilingual (Konkani-Marathi) film on April 17, 2019.
The entire film was shot in Goa, at
Margao, Betalbatim and Velsao. The genre of the film is Drama-Thriller and it
features popular actors such as Milind Gunaji, Pallavi Subash and Sainkeet
Kamat and Goa’s much loved star, John D’Silva.
The Jaw-Dropping Film
Over the years, the industry has changed
drastically, bringing positive outcomes with the number of good stories and
plots coming from new Konkani writers. ‘Miranda House’ is, in Talak’s words, an
“on-the-edge-thriller”. It’s a spine-chilling rollercoaster ride with many
twists and turns in the plot and texture that will keep the viewers guessing
till the very end. Talak cautions, “Don’t miss the beginning of the film.” The
theme of the film, as briefed by him, is depicted in a way where one never
knows the truth. “You may never know who the queen is and who the pawn is; what
is true and what is false.”
The film holds a different angle of storytelling. Since many
scripts have the usual plot of suspense in it, Talak has guaranteed that this
is a new cliff-hanger and will keep all cinema lovers at the edge of their
seats. Another attraction is Goa’s loved comedian John D’Silva, whose role is a
mystery and won’t be revealed until the release of the film.
Behind the mask
The lead actor of the film, Sainkeet Kamat, is a Goan who is
well known and loved in Maharashtra and Goa for his roles in popular serials
‘Tujha Majha Breakup’ (Zee Marathi), ‘Ratris Khel Chale’ (Zee Marathi) and ‘Hya
Gojirvanya Gharat’ (Marathi Play). He is a Graduate in Theatre Art (Center of
Performing Arts, Pune University) and this is his debut film in Konkani as well
as Marathi.
Milind Gunaji, who plays a pivotal role in this movie, is of
Goan origin. Gunaji expresses that he has always heard of the creativity in the
land of Goa, but today he has actually witnessed it and was amused by the
clever work of Talak. He brands Talak as a fantastic director: “When
Rajendra-ji had come to me with the script, I immediately agreed to do the
film; the way he explained it was amiable.” Gunaji debuted in the 1993 film
‘Papeeha’ and first gained widespread notice in the 1996’s ‘Fareb’. He has
performed in several films since then in different languages like Hindi,
Marathi, Telugu, Punjabi and Kannada and has written seven books based on his
travel and history about various places. This is his first film in Konkani.
Behind the scenes
The
cinematographer of the film is Suraj Kurade, a Goan who has made his mark in
the Gujarati film industry. He has served as a Chief Assistant DOP of popular
films like ‘Queen’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Barfi’, ‘Stree’ and more. The film has been
edited by Vardhan Dhaimodkar, a young talent from Goa who has completed his
graduation from FTI Pune. Apart from the lead actors, the film also has
appearances by Prince Jacob, Audhoot Sahakari, Sanjay Talwadkar, Sanjiv Prabu,
Madhvi Desai and Anil Raikar. The film is edited by Vardhan Dhaimodkar a young
talent from Goa.
