MARGAO: A tribal federation has come to the support of lab assistant Ramkrishna Jalmi, who has been suspended for ‘hurting’ the religious feelings of a community, demanding his immediate reinstatement in service.
The federation of Gawda Kunbi Velip Dhangar (GAKUVED) has warned the management of Swami Vivekanand Vidyaprasarak Mandal School, Borim, that their act of suspending Jalmi amounts to atrocities under Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Act.

Jalmi was arrested for his alleged remarks against Lord Parshurama at an anti-CAA meeting at Benaulim. He was, subsequently, suspended by the school on the orders of the Department of Education.
Addressing the press here, GAKUVED President Rupesh Velip strongly demanded that the school management immediately withdraw the suspension order and reinstate Jalmi on duty.
“We want to send a loud and clear warning to those who are unnecessarily involved in public demonstrations against Jalmi; passing personal comments on social media and other forums and those demanding his termination from school, that their acts amount atrocities against a member of a Scheduled Tribe,” Velip said.
“The group must understand stripping from job will economically affect his entire family,” he averred.
“If the acts by locals to create political and social pressure on the system are not withdrawn, the tribal association and other allied tribal forums all over Goa shall be forced to initiate legal action under the Atrocities Act. Any such intervention by Borim locals or PTA shall lead to contempt of court as the matter is subjudice. Le the law take its course,” he warned.
