MARGAO: Is the Margao Municipal officials dragging its feet over the question of razing down the illegal structure occupied by MMC Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello at Mungul?
This question has come to the fore as the civic body has knocked on the doors of the demolition squad, South, to raze down the structure. Many an eyebrow has been raised over the MMC’s request for the demolition squad, since the application was not accompanied by the demolition order or the transgression report.
But, what has come as a big surprise to officials in the South Goa District Collectorate was the civic body’s decision to approach the demolition squad to raze down the structure when the civic body has the required manpower at its disposal to carry out a demolition.
A senior Collectorate official said it indeed sounds surprising that the civic body has requisitioned the demolition squad for 10 PWD labourers and police when the Margao Municipality has an army of labourers at its disposal. “In the past, the MMC had razed down many structures with the help of its workforce. It is surprising that the civic body has asked for the demolition squad this time round,” the official remarked.
Sources in the District Collectorate informed that the MMC’s request for the demolition squad may not be accepted in April since the chairman of the demolition squad and SDM, Ajit Panchwadkar has already fixed seven demolitions for the month, some of them pending for months now.
