The rift within the Congress organization came to the fore when on June 27 some of the party members had heated arguments with the Disciplinary Action Committee for issuing show cause notices to some members or anti-party activities.

The incident occurred when a faction opposed to the Congress president Amit Patkar went to the Congress House, Panjim and questioned the Disciplinary Action Committee chairman M K Shaikh for issuing show cause notices to some of the party members.

When contacted, Shaikh said that the committee had already submitted its report to the party president narrating the entire incident that happened on June 27. It is now up to the party president to decide on what kind of action be taken against them.

When asked whether the committee has named any members who indulged in indiscipline, Shaikh said, “We have submitted our report about what were the facts and what was the situation. We have also given the names who were present on that day.” He said adding that the party president has powers to decide on initiating disciplinary action against them or not.
