AVEDEM: Ugem Rising Club, Sanguem prevailed over St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda to emerge champions of the 10th Fr Agnelo Youth inter-village football tournament organised by Fr. Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, played at Panchayat ground, Avedem, Quepem, on Sunday.
St Anthony started in whirlwind fashion and went into the lead in the 8th minute of the match when Succoro Fernandes flicked the ball into the nylons.
Down by a goal, Ugem Rising Club went into attacking mode with Anil Goanker resorting parity in the first half itself.
Thereafter, in the second session, Israel Fernandes scored to give his team the glittering trophy.
Clafasio Dias, MLA of Cuncolim Constituency was the Chief Guest on the occasion and gave away the prizes. Hazel Fernandes, Zilla Panchayat member of Xeldem Constituency and Alleluia Alfonso, Sarpanch of Village Panchayat of Avedem-Cotombi-Chaify were the Guest of Honour.
The following prizes were awarded. Winners: Ugem Rising Club Rs. 40,000 ; Runners-up: St. Anthony Sports club, Assolda Rs. 30,000; 1st Scorer of the finals: Succoro Fernandes of St. Anthony Sports Club; Best player of the finals:Anil Gaonker of Ugem Rising Club and Best goalkeeper: Wilson Martins of Ugem Rising Club.
