AMBELIM: Ambelim SC downed Betalbatim Sporting 1-0 in the Lourdes Soccer, at Ambelim ground, on Wednesday.
In the third minute, Betalbatim’s Klusner free-kick was headed to safety by Ambelim defender Desmond.
Hayden passed the ball to Jade who wasted the chance as he was sloppy to tap the ball into the open goal in the 13th minute. Clifford and Klusner combined well in the midfield and created lot of chances by Rayan and Desmond were strong in defence for Ambelim.
In the 20th minute, Ambelim earned a free-kick which was taken by Samson and the ball headed by Steven beating the rival keeper to give Ambelim the lead.
Ambelim had a golden chance to increase their lead but Samson’s blistering shot rattled the crossbar and went out of play.
After resumption, Betalbatim came with renewed ideas and could have equalised in the fifth minute of the half but Ambelim goalkeeper Benny was equal to the task by making a diving save to stop Klusner’s header.
Klusner’s free-kick was headed into the Ambelim goal but Benny once again came up with a smart save.
