CURCHOREM: A Hindu bride and a groom missed their wedding mohurat on Tuesday due to road blocked at Sanvordem junction.
The bride from Rivona was proceeding to Shiroda and the groom from Curchorem was proceeding to Ponda for their respective wedding ceremonies. On reaching Sanvordem, they were held up between the mining trucks for more than three hours at Sanvordem.
Police along with some locals had a tough time in clearing the road which was blocked due to transportation of mining ore from Codli Sesa mines to Capxem jetty, Fomentos ore from Kalay to Sanvordem jetty, Sanguem and Cavrem ore to Khamamoll-Curchorem jetty.
According to sources, around 500 trucks are coming from Codli mines alone and making around 4000 trips per day within 13 kms. Other trucks coming from Kalay, Sanguem and Cavrem to Sanvordem jetties had also blocked the road from all the routes for hours thus obstructing and inconveniencing the public.
Venting his anger, Pradeep Kakodkar said that government has failed to create proper infrastructure even after three years ban on mining.
“The government started mining transportation without building mining corridors or widening the roads. Now common man has to face all the problems once again due to absence of required infrastructure,” said Kakodkar.
When contacted, Curchorem traffic Police Inspector Edwin Colaco said around 24 traffic police are stationed to monitor and control the traffic at Curchorem and Sanvordem. “The traffic congestion and road blocked are occurring mainly when the internet connection fails and since the civilians and mining trucks are using the same routes, it messes up everything,” Colaco said.
