RAIA: Salcete giants Loyola High School, Margao, and St Ann’s School, Agonda, emerged champions in the 27th Bro Slattery Memorial All-Goa Inter-School Football Tournament for U-13 Boys and Girls U-13 organised by Regina Mundi High School, Chicalim, in association with Alumni Association of Regina Mundi High School (AARMS) at the school ground, Chicalim, recently.
In the boys final, Loyola High School scored a solitary goal victory over St Britto High School, Mapusa, while in the girls final, St Ann’s Institute pipped Assagao Union High Sschool, Assagao. Uriel Fernandes netted the winner.
The player-of-the-match award was awarded to Vidisha Assagaonkar, who performed well in the tournament.
Earlier in the boys semi-finals, St Britto High School defeated Infant Jesus High Sschool, Colva. The full time score was 2-2 with Cayden Fernandes, Zubair Kaidarath scoring for Infant Jesus HS and Gershon Bagul, Brendan Rodrigues netting for St Britto HS.
St Britto HS proved to be better shooters in the tie-breaker. Cayden Fernandes was the player-of-the-match.
In the second semi-final, Loyola HS defeated Regina Mundi HS, Chicalim, 3-0 with star left winger Shay Fernandes scoring a brace in quick succession, Nathan Afonso scored the third goal. The player-of-the-match was awarded to Presley Vaz.
In the third place match, Regina Mundi High School, Chicalim, pipped Infant Jesus High School, Colva, by a solitary goal scored by Ashok Dharlani.
Technical Director of Clube de Salgaocar Peter Vales, General Secretary Anoop Abraham, Organising Secretary and Physical Education teacher s of Regina Mundi School Allan Gonsalves, Joslyn Carvalho, AARMS General Secretary Myron Rodrigues, Rosa Sports and Cultural Club President Jack Colaco Regina Mundi School Manager Bro Charles d Sousa and Goa Football Association Executive Member Francisco Nunes distributed the trophies, certificates, cash prizes and medals to the winners and runners-up.
Altogether 16 teams participated in the boys section and 8 teams in the girls.
