Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) recently released two new Konkani books — Chuk Konnachi?, a novel by Anthony Menezes, and Mintoo Korta Moj’ja, a children’s book by Philomena Samfrancisco — at a special function held at the Ravindra Bhavan Conference Hall, Margao. The books were launched by Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao in the presence of DKA President Celso Fernandes, Vice-President William Fernandes, Secretary Fr Myron Barreto, and the authors.
The event also featured a prize distribution ceremony for DKA’s Konkani literature contest. Speaking as the chief guest, Yuri Alemao highlighted the importance of literature and language in uniting communities. “Literature plays a vital role in our life, steering us with the thoughts of writers. Konkani is the thread that binds us, no matter where we are in the world. It’s our identity, and DKA’s work in nurturing writers and preserving the language deserves great appreciation,” Alemao said. He urged for more government support to writers and suggested promoting Konkani literature through audiobooks to preserve Goa’s heritage and culture.

DKA President Celso Fernandes encouraged people to show love for Konkani by buying and reading local books. He also announced that an English-Konkani Roman script dictionary will be launched in November.
Fr Myron Jeson Barreto welcomed the gathering, while William Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Sonia Gomes compered the programme, which concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
