MAJORDA: In a pulsating encounter full of attacking football and last-minute drama, A A de Majorda Utorda Calata defeated Dicarpal Sports Club 2-1 with Royston Correia emerging as the late hero to march into next round.
Despite Vellroy Colaco’s man-of-the-match performance and a goal to his name, Dicarpal SC’s brave effort wasn’t enough to see them through.
The match began brightly with both teams showing intent.
A A de Majorda Utorda Calata persistence paid off when Sherwyn Rodrigues, picking the ball near halfway, skipped past four Dicarpal SC defenders before coolly slotting home to give the lead – a goal of real class and confidence.
Dicarpal SC, however, refused to back down. A clever through ball from Donald Rocha sent Vellroy clean through and he showed composure beyond his years, chipping the keeper to make it 1-1. The second half saw chances at both ends, but the decisive moment came late on.
After Dicarpal SC conceded a free-kick near the edge of the box, Ashley Rodrigues floated in a perfect delivery that Royston Correia met with a deft touch to put A A de Majorda Utorda Calata 2-1 ahead. They almost sealed the contest moments later when Ashley Mendes was played through on goal, only for Dicarpal SC goalkeeper Francisco Colaco to pull off a brilliant save. The rebound fell to Dylan Godinho, whose thunderous strike crashed against the crossbar, keeping Dicarpal SC’s faint hopes alive.
