Vijay Marine shipyard blast in Loutolim claims fourth life

The death toll from the tragic explosion at the Vijay Marine Shipyard in Loutolim has risen to four, following the death of another injured worker undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim. The latest victim has been identified as Abhishek Kumar, who had sustained serious burn injuries in the blast that rocked the shipyard earlier this week. Despite continuous medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries late Thursday night.

The explosion, which occurred during maintenance work on a vessel under repair, had initially claimed three lives and left several others critically injured. Authorities are continuing their probe into the exact cause of the incident, with preliminary investigations pointing to a possible gas leak or mishandling of equipment. Officials from the Department of Factories and Boilers have already inspected the site, and further safety assessments are underway to prevent such accidents in the future.
